Why must a dream deferred explode?
What is so wrong with a raisin,
sticky sweet in an oatmeal cookie?
Where, my children, are the band-aids?
I will fix your sores and kiss them better
with the syrupy sweet sugar of love I will
lift your burdens so they do not sag beneath you.
I believe in different Hughes of color as a
rainbow spreads and melts from one pigment to
another so might we dissipate from old dreams to new.

hmm. i wonder is Hughes a proper name…this would give this a whole other feeling…i like oatmeal raisin cookies…mm….smiles.
Haha, yes, it is! As in Langston Hughes. He is the author of the poem A Dream Deferred.
And oatmeal rasin cookies are my second favorite ๐
Sorry for the late reply,
it is midnight in my place, now it is 7am, I can stay calm and read….

the usage of syrupy is cute..

We definitely need to dream New.. that way we release our old self and begin to walk on a new path exploring new things on our way..
Happy Journey
Unfortunately not every dream will come to pass so even as I strive to reach the stars I’ve learned to be happy with the moon…:)
Langston would smile… Nicely done!

I like how you use active verbs to create such good images:
“I believe in different Hughes of color as a
rainbow spreads and melts from one pigment to
another so might we dissipate from old dreams to new.”
And Langston Hughes? Brilliant!

Lauren, you probably already know that Jingle is stating a new meme for posting poetry (see: http://jinglepoetry.blogspot.com/2010/09/jingle-poetry-open-house-party-welcome.html)
Once a week the site will feature one poem from the previous weeks posts. We are using Thursday Rally week 27 to select the first featured poem. I’d like to feature this poem for the first seek of Jingle’s Open House Party.
Please let me know if that is okay with you. Let me know asap, so I can get it set up. Thanks – Bill
